Cast Iron Fireplaces
Cast iron fireplaces can be difficult to shop for. Perhaps the most obvious feature about this class of fireplace is the fact that they come in such a wide range of styles. Whether your home has modern or contemporary furnishings and decor, you will easily be able to find a cast iron fireplace that matches the style of your home perfectly. The biggest problem you will face is trying to decide which is the best fireplace out of all the contenders. However, this problem can be mitigated with a little bit of prior thought and planning.
Firstly and most obviously, make sure you are clear about the style of the room in which you plan to place your cast iron fireplace. Sometimes it can be difficult to imagine whether or not a particular fireplace will look good in your home, so it is a good idea to take a few photos of the room so you can refer to its appearance easily and accurately.
Next, have a think about what you plan to use your fireplace for. Most people use cast iron fireplaces simply for heating their home. However, it is not uncommon for a cast iron fireplace to double up as a cooking device. This is particularly true of outdoor fireplaces. If you think you may want to use your fireplace for cooking, then you should consider buying one that has a flat top and enough space for one or more pots and pans.
Another issue you need to think about is the fuel that your fireplace will use to create heat. In this case, you have a variety of different options. Many choose to go with wood, which is the most traditional of all the heating options. Wood fires can create an ambient atmosphere that is not possible with other fuel sources. However, with wood comes the problem of smoke, so unless your house is equipped to deal with smoke, wood is not a realistic option for you. Many indoor cast iron fireplaces now use electricity as a fuel source. These fireplaces may not be as attractive as wood fires, but they can include fake burning wood to improve the ambient and dynamic lighting produced by the fireplace. Many outdoor cast iron fireplaces are heated by electricity as well as gas.
Finally, do not forget about your budget. Be clear about how much you are willing to spend before you get started, otherwise you can easily go off track and spend more than you can afford.
